Sous Chef

El Català is a vibrant Mediterranean restaurant in the heart of Shrewsbury, celebrated for its warm hospitality, fresh seasonal ingredients, and authentic yet creative cuisine. We are seeking a capable Sous Chef who is confident in running a kitchen and ready to take on a leadership role.

As Sous Chef, you will be the driving force behind daily kitchen operations. You’ll work closely with the Head Chef but also take charge when required, ensuring smooth service, inspiring the team, and maintaining the highest standards of food quality and safety. This is a role for someone who thrives under pressure, brings creativity to the menu, and has the confidence to lead.

• Oversee kitchen operations and manage service when the Head Chef is absent
• Supervise, train, and motivate the kitchen team
• Prepare and present dishes with Mediterranean flair and precision
• Contribute to menu development, seasonal specials, and creative culinary ideas
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations
• Manage stock control, ordering, and cost efficiency
• Maintain a positive, collaborative atmosphere in the kitchen
